DRUM BARRACKS-This Civil War Museum is home to Colonel James Curtis, his wife Maria and a little boy Jonathon, age five or six. An exterminator was lucky enough to have seen Colonel Curtis in full military uniform from the Civil War era. The worker assumed the man he encountered was an impersonator and was in shock to learn that he had just seen the ghost of James Curtis. Mrs. Curtis has been seen on the balcony since the 1920s and in the hallway. She always appears in a long, full gown. When the staff hears a loud, thumping noise, they just shrug their shoulders, knowing that their ghostly little boy ghost, Jonathan, is bouncing his ball against an upstairs wall. The Drum Barracks is located in Wilmington, California. Their phone number is (310) 548-7509.

ROD'S STEAK HOUSE - Rod Graves, even after his death, is still looking after his beloved restaurant which he established in 1946. Close to Rod's old office, a large mirror suddenly shattered from inside out as if someone knocked the mirror outward. And there was the time when the present owner lost a ring and after weeks of searching finally accepted that he would never find it. He was surprised to find it over a month later sitting on top of the copy machine which is used daily. He gives full credit to the original owner, Rod. A waiter shared his experience with Rod. "I heard very distinct footsteps behind me-on a carpeted floor! And I could feel a very strong presence, but when I turned around, I was alone in the room." Rod's Steak House is on 301 E. Route 66 in Williams, Arizona. Excellent food and a fun atmosphere!

POOGAN'S PORCH - The food isn't the only thing that attracts tourists to this restaurant. Poogan's Porch has at least one ghost and customers return over and over hoping to catch a glimpse of her. Zoe, spinster school teacher, refuses to leave her old, beloved home. Always dressed in black, she has been seen in the upstairs window and likes to cause chaos in the downstairs bar area. The restaurant is named after a stray mutt, who is buried in the front yard (see photo below). The staff denies having a ghostly dog but customers, especially those sitting on the front porch, claim to feel an invisible animal brush against their legs. Poogan's Porch is located in Charleston, SC at 72 Queen Street. You can read more about Zoe on their web site at www.poogansporch.com.

ELKHART CEMETERY-This beautiful cemetery, located 15 miles north of Springfield, IL is, of course, haunted. The late wife of the former Governor Richard Oglesby has been seen weeping at his mausoleum until she is chased away by several ghostly Indians. Photos taken of the mausoleum sometimes show mysterious mists and orbs.

CLARK COUNTY MUSEUM - If you want to get away from the Las Vegas strip, head to Henderson and do some ghost hunting. The Clark County Museum is located is in a park-like setting with five houses to tour (three of which are haunted), outdoor exhibits, a gift shop and an exhibit center.

The Beckley House (see below) has a little curly-haired girl who sits on the stairway. Staff members blame her for removing two dresses from the downstairs closet to the attic.

The Goumond House has a ghostly cat who zips from the exhibit room to the back bedroom.

The Townsite House caught a visitor off guard when she noticed a ghostly little boy walking at the end of the hallway. A ghostly woman has been seen in the hallway as well.

The address for the Clark County Museum is 1830 S. Boulder Hwy.,Henderson. For additional information, call (702) 455-7955.

THE TOWER OF LONDON - For over 400 years, people were beheaded, hung and burned alive at this London, England landmark. No wonder there are so many sightings of ghosts at the Tower of London. Lady Jane Grey, who was only 17 years old when she was beheaded, apparently is looking for her head as her headless ghost is seen quite frequently. And brothers, 12 year old King Edward V and 9 year old Richard, Duke of York, have been seen in the Blood Tower. Queen Anne Boleyn who met her demise by on the scaffold, caused a guard to faint when he spotted her ghost in the confines of the Tower of London.

THE DERBY - George Woolf, also known as "The Iceman" bought the Derby Restaurant in 1938. The famous jockey died eight years later after suffering fatal injuries when he was thrown off a horse at the Santa Anita Raceway. Employees are convinced he is still looking over his old restaurant. Footsteps can be heard going up the stairs to his old living quarters, above the restaurant and his presence is felt throughout the building. The Derby is located at 233 E. Huntington, Arcadia, California.

THE HERMITAGE - This 1902 house was vacant when I visited it in 2000. At that time the old homestead had just been purchased by Sarasota County (Florida) and plans were being made to turn it into an Artist Residency. I can't help but wonder if "Grandma" is still haunting the historic building. One of the original owners, she has been seen in her old bedroom, peering out the upstairs window. When family members still occupied the house, Grandma could be heard opening her old bedroom window and letting it slam shut. It didn't seem to matter that the window was barred shut. The Hermitage is on Manasota Beach Road in Manasota Key.

LAUGH FACTORY - Groucho Marx at one time had an office in the Laugh Factory located at 8001 Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Employees are used to having him still around but aren't too happy that he hasn't given up his trademark cigar. Not only does the heavy scent linger in the air but he sometimes leaves ashes scattered on his old desk. Groucho's heavy footsteps can be heard coming up the stairs (see photo below) and employees will sometimes find candles that were put out, lit the next time they're in the room. The Laugh Factory's website is www.laughfactory.com.

CLARION SANTA RITA HOTEL - I doubt if the people that check into this hotel realize how much ghostly activity there is throughout the entire building. We'll start with Room 822, one of the most haunted. A guest was in the bathroom when he noticed that in the shower there was a male ghost, dressed in black and a short woman was standing behind him. Another guest saw them as well, the same night. They later learned that a man named Jake hung himself in that room. Cries of babies are heard on the 2nd floor, which make sense as many years ago there was a nursery on this floor. Sounds of children running down the corridor are heard on the 4th floor (see photo below). Over the years the hotel has had a few fires so that might be the reason children can be heard screaming late at night. Room 815, where a murder occurred, is also haunted. The Clarion Santa Rita is located at 88 E, Broadway, Tucson, AZ

THE KNICKERBOCKER ALL*STAR CAFE & SPEAKEASY - The Knickerbocker used to be one of Hollywood's hottest spots. Now it's considered one of Hollywood's most haunted spots. With all of the tragic deaths at the Knickerbocker it shouldn't come as a surprise. William Frawley, who resided at the hotel at the time, died of a heart attack on the front sidewalk. A famous costume designer for the stars, leaped to her death from an upper floor window and film genius D.W. passed away in the lobby at the Knickerbocker. But, the ghosts of Valentino and Marilyn Monroe, plus a few unknowns, are the ones haunting the building. Even if you don't spot a ghost, you'll have a good time at the All*Star Cafe & Speakeasy. The address is 1714 Ivar Street, Hollywood, California.

GOLDEN NORTH HOTEL-Retail shops have taken over the building that was once the Golden North Hotel in Skagway, Alaska. But that doesn't mean that Mary has moved to other living quarters. Mary had been haunting the Golden North for years and the staff actually had grown very fond of her. She passed away in Room 23 of pneumonia and this seemed to be her favorite place. Mary was known to appear from time to time to employees and guests so chances are she is still making surprise appearances to customers in the various stores that was once her former home.

TIVOLI THEATER-In the 1960s, a fire occurred at the Tivoli Theater. According to one manager, no one was killed but employees can't help but wonder if there might be a link between ghostly footsteps heard by employees and the strange mist that seems to appear on a regular basis after the last showing of the night. The theater is located at 5021 Highland Avenue, Downers Grove, Illinois.
