Students at Benedict Hall always refer to the small storage room on the fourth floor as the "coffin room." In the early 1900s, coffins were stored in this room for community members that passed away. Strange noises, muffled conversations and whispers are heard not only coming from the old storage room but on the entire fourth floor as well. Doors slam and students often feel unexplained presences. Stories of ghosts lingering in the various tunnels on campus prevail as well. Unfortunately, Benedict Hall at Benedictine University located in Illinois, is scheduled to be torn down. Will this put the ghost stories to rest? Click on photo to enlarge. |

The Palmetto House-Unexplained events have occurred since the day that Bob and Linda Gehring started resorting the former Five Oaks Inn. The Gehrings think that Lillie Lamb (photo below) who was married to the son of the original owner, is behind the shenanigans. Noises come from the laundry room, doors open and shut, and
guests have heard and seen spirits. After one visitor made a comment on how she
really didn't believe that Lillie's spirit was present, a crystal glass snapped at the stem, causing a drink to spill all over her. Two guests
heard a loud clucking sound and witnessed, perhaps the ghost of a dog or large cat, jump off the entertainment center, landing on the floor. You can visit Bob and Linda's website at www.thepalmettohouse.com or drop by when you're in Palmetto, FL.

Harry Houdini died on Halloween in 1926 but his ghostly spirit has been seen on these steps leading to the former mansion. The only structure that survived a fire on this property years after his death, were the servant quarters. You can see the property where the great magician (and if you're lucky, maybe a glimpse of Houdini's ghost) once lived by driving to the corner of Laurel Canyon Blvd. and Willow Glen Road in Hollywood, CA. |

Pfister Hotel-The ghost at this hotel is none other than the founder Charles Pfister who doesn't seem to prefer one area over another. He has been seen several times on the landing of the staircase overlooking the magnificent lobby. A chamber maid noticed a well dressed portly gentleman who disappeared before her eyes and employees have turned to see a ghost fitting the same description watching over them as they worked. They all agreed that he resembled Mr. Pfister. In 2000 a guest didn't see the ghost of the late Mr. Pfister; but did see a white clad Native American. Dressed in Indian garb he materialized in her door, looked around and simply vanished. The site that the Pfister Hotel sits on was a Native American burial ground which might explain the appearance of the spirit. The next time you're in Milwaukee spend the night and maybe you'll be lucky enough to catch sight of the former owner. Click on the photo to enlarge for a closer look. |

Haslam's Book Store-This resident ghost takes it upon himself (or maybe it should be herself) to rearrange books to his or her liking. At times, books literally fly off the shelves. Both customers and employees have said they can feel a presence behind them when there is no one directly in the area. And like most haunted sites, there are cold spots throughout the bookstore. Haslam's is located in St. Petersburg, FL. |

Sunset Hotel -The ghosts here aren't mean or evil; just mischievous and aggravating at times. A former manager was startled when a plant that was on a stand, jumped straight
up in the air and fell upside down on the floor. The following evening, it happened again. Their ghosts have also been known to cause glass Christmas tree ornaments to tumble off the tree, alarms to go off and frequently allow guests to see their shadows as they glide past their doors. One desk clerk did catch a glimpse of a couple that was relaxing on a sofa in the lobby. The spirits were dressed as if they were waiting for the music to start. The male sported an old-fashioned tux and his date was wearing a fancy southern bell evening gown. After twenty minutes they simply vanished but indentations on the couch were still apparent. You can find the Sunset Hotel in San Bernardino, CA. |

Mission San Juan Capistrano - The most popular ghost that haunts this Mission is Magdalena who was killed during an earthquake in 1812. Some have seen her face, lit by candlelight, peering out of a window in the old ruins of the Church. The beautiful Indian girl is also seen wandering in the northwest corner of the courtyard. A phantom friar, clad in a hooded robe, meanders in the courtyard, disappearing in front of your eyes. The spirit of a soldier has also been seen near the old barracks. The Mission is in San Juan Capistrano, California. |

Harvey House - This long abandoned hotel frightened a bunch of teenagers so much they refuse to go back. Boredom prompted an innocent exploration late one night for these high schoolers but they weren't bored for long. Using a lighter, they traipsed up the stairway and entered a former guest room. The group watched in horror as a female spirit hovered over one of the students before placing her ghostly hand on the startled girl's shoulder. The ghost floated over to an old bed and proceeded to lie down. The teens didn't take any time fleeing the building. The old Harvey House is located in Seligman, AZ. |

Boulder Dam Hotel-The ghosts at the Boulder Dam Hotel keep staff members entertained, to say the least. Activity occurs throughout the hotel. Employees hear muffled conversations when no one is around and sounds of laughter are frequently heard in the lobby. One former manager saw a spirit trying to speak as she floated near the front desk. Historian Dennis McBride works in the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum located in the Boulder Dam Hotel and encountered a ghost. He felt a heavy presence behind him and when he turned, he spotted a ghost wearing a white shirt. The Boulder Dam Hotel is located in Boulder,
Nevada.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge-The young, blonde female ghost that has been seen on the bridge looks as though she is ready to jump off but instead she simply vanishes. She only appears at night when the air happens to be shrouded by fog. Locals tend to think the ghost belongs to a young lady who may have committed suicide by jumping from the bridge. The female ghost tries to get from one end of the bridge to the other by thumbing a ride. But before the unsuspecting driver reaches the other side, his passenger is no longer in the car. The bridge connects St. Petersburg and Tampa, Florida.
